2018 Muncipal Election - Internet or Telephone Voting

On March 27, 2017, Newmarket Council approved the use of internet and telephone voting for the 2018 Municipal Election.  Residents were able to cast their vote online or by telephone anytime, anywhere using an internet connected computer or mobile device, or by touch-tone telephone from 10 a.m. on October 13 to 8 p.m. on October 22. 

Council also directed staff to report back following the 2018 Election regarding the use of ranked ballots in Ontario in the 2018 Municipal Elections.

On May 14, 2019 at 10:00 AM there was a Special Committee of the Whole meeting to present:

  • a review of the 2018 Municipal Election, 
  • the results of the survey completed by voters following voting, and a
  • discussion of options for the 2022 election including ranked ballots. 

The meeting was held in the Council Chambers @ 395 Mulock Drive. For those unable to attend the meeting is streamed online through the Agendas, Minutes and Meetings page on the main Town website.
